A circle of BIAB Nail aftercare with each tip of how to care for your nails and extend their life with the bellow 7 reasons.

Why BIAB Nails Deserve Special Aftercare

Builder in a Bottle (BIAB) has taken the world by storm, and for good reason. BIAB strengthens natural nails, encourages healthy growth and offers a beautiful, durable finish. But here’s the truth: even the best BIAB application won’t last if you don’t look after it.

At AMIRI Studio (and inside the AMIRI Academy), we always start with nail health. Whether you’re a loyal client or a future nail technician, aftercare is non-negotiable. These are the golden rules we live by and teach to help your BIAB stay strong, flexible, and damage-free.

1. Moisturise Daily with Cuticle Oil

Hydrated nails are healthy nails. Applying cuticle oil every day helps to nourish your nail beds, prevent dryness and cracking, and reduce the risk of lifting. A flexible nail is a strong nail — and BIAB needs that flexibility to perform at its best.

Pro tip: Look for oils rich in jojoba, vitamin E, or almond oil for the best absorption. We recommend keeping one in your car, on your bedside table, or even next to your toothbrush as a daily reminder!

2. Be Gentle with Your Hands

We say this all the time: treat your nails like jewels, not tools. Avoid using your nails to open packaging, peel labels, scratch surfaces or pop cans — these small habits can cause stress fractures or lifting, even on strong BIAB overlays.

Pro insight: This is especially important during the first 24 hours after your appointment, when your BIAB is still settling in.

3. Wear Gloves When Cleaning, Gardening, or Washing Up

BIAB may be durable, but it's not invincible. Harsh chemicals and long exposure to water can wear down the product, dry out your nail beds, and lead to lifting or weakening. Gloves act as a simple but powerful barrier to keep your nails safe.

Pro tip: Invest in a few pairs of gloves and leave them under your sink, in the laundry, or in your gardening kit so they’re always in reach.

4. Book Regular Appointments Every 3–4 Weeks

BIAB is designed to grow with your natural nails but only for so long. As the product grows out, it becomes more prone to breakage, lifting, or imbalance. Booking infills every 3–4 weeks keeps your set looking fresh, strong and properly supported.

Why it matters: Waiting too long can actually put stress on your natural nails, which defeats the purpose of BIAB’s nail-strengthening benefits.

5. Never Pick or Peel Your BIAB

Tempting as it might be, peeling off your BIAB can severely damage your natural nail plate causing thinning, peeling, and even pain. If you’re ready for a refresh, always book a professional removal to protect the integrity of your nails.

What we teach: Safe removal techniques are a core part of our training inside AMIRI Academy. A skilled tech will never rush or rip off product, and neither should you.

6. Avoid Excessive Water Exposure

Extended baths, constant handwashing, or swimming can cause the natural nail to swell and contract, which puts strain on the BIAB bond and can lead to premature lifting or cracking.

Best practice: Keep soaking to a minimum, and always dry your hands and nails thoroughly after any water contact.

7. Keep Nails at a Manageable Length

We love a statement nail, but the longer it is the easier it is to catch, bend or break. BIAB adds strength but not invincibility. Choose a length that suits your day to day lifestyle and movements.

Tech insight: in the salon, we always assess nail health and lifestyle before shaping a set. In the academy, we teach fututre techs to do the same.

Final Thoughts: Healthy Nails Start with Great Habits

BIAB is designed to strengthen and protect your natural nails - but only when it’s planned with the proper care. With these aftercare tips you’ll extend the life of your BIAB, avoid unnecessary damage and enjoy stronger, more beautiful nails between appointments.
